As a child, I found myself completely fascinated with a certain Barbie doll. She wasn't blonde and buxom like the others, instead, she had short brown hair and the most beautiful pink suit I could imagine. As you can probably guess, the Barbie was a model of Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy, one of the most fashionable and influential First Ladies.

It's strange today how much influence Mrs. Kennedy has had on the world of First Lady fashion, and even possible first lady fashion.

Senator Hillary Clinton evolved the polished look of the fun and fresh skirt suit into a pantsuit (She even quipped, "The sisterhood of the travelling pantsuit!" while sporting an interesting orange one) while VP nominee Sarah Palin and Michelle Obama often go for the traditionally skirts.

However, I think the most interesting article that mentions a possible First Lady is this article from Vanity Fair, detailling the cost of Cindy McCain's convention outfits. Followed by this article, detailling what $300,o00 could buy the average American. Not to critique Mrs. McCain (because who does not love the occasional lavish or luxe item) but the cost is quite hillarious in terms of what other important women that surround her wear.

This is a typical example of what Democrats and the liberal media does. They want to talk about everything but the issues! What in the world does what Cindy McCain or Sarah Palin wears have to do with their politics and their ability to lead this country? Nothing! That being said, that was quite an interesting article.

I actually posted this because I'm a girl and I find the lives and clothing of first women completely fascinating.

However, McCain is trying to portray Obama as this elite, cosmopolitan man and Cindy's haute couture costing outfit is certainly more cosmopolitan and luxe than anything I can afford...

yeah but what does the clothing/how much the outfit that Cindy McCain wears have anything to do with McCain's politics? Nothing. We already know that Cindy McCain is rich. Very interesting how the liberal media picks up on these very odd irrelevant material to this Presidential race.

It's not irrelevant when the Republican Party is trying to present Obama as far more cosmopolitan than what the Republicans want, when in reality, the Republicans are equally so. A $300,000 outfit doesn't promote the image of small town America, regardless of whether or not Cindy McCain is rich. Not every issue with the Republicans is the fault of liberal media, Howard. Just like some of the issues with Obama are legitimate and not just Republican propaganda.

Interesting dialogue that you two have going here! In some sense, I agree with Howard. The lack of focus on solid issues in this campaign is frustrating. Yet, where does this come from? The McCain campaign has admittedly attempted to steer the election towards a personality test, as opposed to issues based. I see your post's point as well. We can all be inspired by the First Ladies. Among those I find most inspiring include Eleanor Roosevelt and Hillary Clinton.
